Five organizations to benefit from collective giving grants

BOSTON (Tuesday, June 13, 2017)— Members of Womenade Boston, a Boston-area giving circle supporting programs that empower teen girls and women, voted Monday evening (June 12) to further the efforts of five organizations with grants of $20,500 each.

"For the first time, through additional support from members and friends, Womenade Boston was able to expand its impact and award five grants to organizations serving the needs of women and teen girls within our communities," said Womenade President Christine Swistro.

Womenade Boston closed its seventh annual grant making cycle with presentations from nine organizations that progressed through a multipart evaluation process; members selected the final five organizations to receive this year's $102,500 in collective funds.

Membership voted to support the following programs serving teen girls:

Brookview House, Inc. and its Self Sufficient Girls to Self Sufficient Women program
Friends of the Children – Boston to further the Finding Her Spark program

Three organizations focused on the empowerment of women in Greater Boston, earned the support of the membership:

Jeremiah Program Boston to add staffing resources to deliver their multigenerational poverty to prosperity programming
Citizens for Safety, Inc. to fund Operation LIPSTICK, Ladies Involved in Putting a Stop to Inner City Killings
Sitters Without Borders to expand a family coordinator position to match low-income single mothers attending college with volunteer babysitters

Womenade Boston members visited 18 organizations this spring as part of the annual grant making cycle and received a total of 73 letters of inquiry.
